AIL Residency Program – Open Call for Angewandte Alumni

Use the Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab for individual projects and share your work routine and processes

Deadline: 25 Jan 2025

The Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab (AIL) invites alumni* of the University of Applied Arts Vienna to realize their creative and interdisciplinary projects. The Open Call is aimed at artists, designers and researchers who would like to use one space (the right hand side wing) of the AIL premises as a workplace for artistic work or experimental formats and are interested in presenting their own projects to a broad public on selected dates.

The AIL is an experimental space and a platform for projects at the interface of art, science and artistic research and part of the University of Applied Arts Vienna. With the ‘AIL Residency Program for Alumni’, the AIL aims to promote and make visible the artistic work and interdisciplinary research of alumni of the University of Applied Arts outside the traditional exhibition scene.

As part of the Open Call, we provide the selected alumni with a workspace for 4 weeks in one of the AIL exhibition rooms. The space is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with no overnight accommodation provided. In addition, applicants can use the existing technical infrastructure of the AIL (depending on the availability of equipment and facilities). Alumni will also have the opportunity to interact with the interested public as well as other artists, teachers and students.

A budget of up to EUR 1500 is available for the realization of the project, which can be used for fees and material costs. Applicants undertake to be present for the public twice during their residency for 2-3 hours (e.g. live workshop, project presentation, performance, workshop) and to organize an Open Studio Day. At the end of the residency AIL asks for a report that can be used for a separate feature on our website.

The AIL will actively promote the project/residents via the website and social media channels in order to reach a broad public. In addition, we are also happy to organize visits with departments of the universities to enter into dialogue with students as well as feedback rounds from teachers or the AIL team.

Residency #1: Mon, 24 Feb – Mon, 24 Mar 2025

Residency #2: Fri, 28 Mar – Fri, 25.4.2025
