Surprise! Bliss or sorrow?
In any case, new things take you by surprise; but what might be original here could be totally dull some place else. There is nothing absolute about innovation. So, let’s focus on a concrete vision of the new and its specific meaning in a given social context.
What can the new and innovative look like for different sectors? Is it feasible to imagine an economics of the new? Is it all about being faster, higher and newer? Is it all about being more original? What’s the price one has to pay? In short: Is innovation a loaded term that only implies competition, something one really doesn’t want to be part of?
Indeed, a whole array of interests and expectations is inscribed in academic and artistic processes. But does living up to them constitute a so-called success or achievement? Are there any alternatives, can we expect the unexpected? Self-reflection, self-denial, withdrawal? Focus? Distraction? Might it be for this reason that it’s all about creating a new place of possibilities, as inclusive as possible but as restrictive as need be? Let’s (still) be surprised, let’s take the risk of innovation, let’s expect the unexpected.
The exhibition illustrates the potential that lies in connections between different forms of knowledge and different media and materializations.
