The Rector of the University of Applied Arts Vienna and jury chair Petra Schaper Rinkel is delighted to announce that the Oskar Kokoschka Prize 2024 will be awarded to the artist Miriam Cahn, who lives and works in Switzerland. ‘On behalf of the entire jury, I warmly congratulate Miriam Cahn and am delighted with this decision’, explains Rector Schaper Rinkel. ‘In Miriam Cahn, we are honoring an artist who has been reflecting on themes such as flight, war, violence and gender roles in her paintings, drawings, actions and installations since the 1970s. She has developed a unique artistic language that addresses her audience in a drastically effective way and impresses with its consistency and radicalism’, the Angewandte rector quotes the jury's statement.
