Unseen Science – See Aural Woods

Performance and Talk (in German) from 2015

Luma.Launisch and Takamovsky present their interdisciplinary project in cooperation with Bundesforschungszentrum für Wald

Luma.Launisch and Takamovsky present their interdisciplinary project Unseen Science – See Aural Woods, which combines the audiovisual work of artists Luma.Launisch and Takamovsky with the forest research material from the Bundesforschungszentrum für Wald.

Sonification, the musical rendering of scientific data, was the basis for this artistic research project, which took place at Bundesforschungszentrum für Wald (BFW) in 2014/15. Musician and writer Juergen Berlakovich (Takamovsky) and visual artists Florian Tanzer/Astrid Steiner (Luma.Launisch) based their work on the research conducted at BFW and created an aesthetic rendering of BFW’s archive. Initial skepticism by the scientists led to interest and fascination for the other, diametrically opposed ‘genre’. The audiovisual piece had its premiere in the context of the sound:frame festival in April 2015.

Introduction and live performance, in conversation with Juergen Berlakovich, Florian Tanzer, Eva Fischer (founding member of sound:frame festival) and Thomas Geburek (director of the Institute for Forest Genetics at BFW). Moderated by Anna Masoner (news editor at Ö1).
